Literature Text

"Everyone likes to believe that in their time, their war is greatest and most important battle in the world. The sad fact remains that the thought simply isn't the case. The wars of today are no more important than the ones fought yesteryear. They're all important, every decision, and thought made, plays the largest role in the world and time to come. Everything changes: time, structure, society, people, even morals. Yes, what defines good against evil does change. A long time ago, all that it took to be a good man was to serve without question. Now, to be a good man you must destroy the foundations of things. Things change, and that frightens people; they'll do everything within their power to prevent it. People need change. Without, they will never know that what they're doing is wrong. Change is what the world needs; change is what sets them free.

People like to underestimate themselves, at least those worth investing in. It is when we think we are small, that we find out just how large we really are. A small man can cast the largest shadow, if given the opportunity and proper lighting. But opportunities are not given, but taken. Take the world by storm, and no one can stop you! Only if you are willing to risk it all, can you achieve it all. At the end of the day, everything is a gamble. You reap what you sow. Do too little, do too much, you will receive little, or you will receive much.

What does it take to be a good man? Stopping villainy, correct? But what is villainy? Nothing but an arbitrary conception of what we are told when we're still in small-clothes. Lets take for example, a cow. To that cow, a farmer must be the most evil thing in the planes! He defecates them day to day, draining them of important fluids needed to feed their young, and then he slaughters them. Yet, if the farmer did not do so, then many others will die from lack of sustenance. To the needy, he must be a hero for keeping them alive for one more day. Yet, he is killed still. Is all that it takes to be a good man is to kill one that is seen to be evil? So you're saying, good and evil is separated by the tip of a sword. History is like that. Good men are seen only as the victors. With all of this in mind, my dear friend, we are no better than the cows we slay and eat.

Secrets, they hurt. Sometimes we forget that. It's not that we wish pain, it's rather we think we're avoiding it. You can never avoid pain, it is impossible. To avoid pain is to avoid growth, and without growth; our will will remain untested. And untested, our faith is not real.
The Gods cannot help you. Their calls are always silent, and for one good reason: you're on this world to learn from others, not from divinity. Every choice you make effects the world, and every choice made by someone else has the same properties. We're nothing more than a player of a game. And your moves are timed. Move too fast, and you'll regret it. Move too slow, and you'll miss your turn. Never. Miss. Your. Turn. Never.

To watch the world from the sidelines is to see it unfold. To be a part of the world, is to make it unfold. But, you'll never know if it's unfolding into something greater or worse, unless you take steps in both directions. Take notice to the madmen, for they are the ones who truly shape this world."
                                                                                                           -Damakos
Stay not, be gone; live and hereafter say, a madman's mercy bade thee run away.

Great start here. Especially the last sentence of the last paragraph- that's absolutely true. You rarely remember the conventional people. Lee Iacoca, Steve Jobs, Nolan Bushnell- they stand out.
