I will be honest, my heart goes out to my most favorite character that I've ever made. Althirion De'Alselah, originally named just Althir Da'Elsila but I changed it halfway through making him. Althir was originally supposed to be a demon made shadow killer taking place in the Edo Period of Japan, but that required a lot of research for a fifteen year old boy, so I scrapped that. I changed Althir into a half-elven rouge with a fighting style all his own. That's how his legacy in my writing's began.

However, I still wanted the demon entity to be involved somehow. So I made Damakos, and that's a whole new biography right there. Althir was supposed to be a rouge who mastered battoujutsu, a specific fighting style in Japanese culture that I, myself, have learned. Althir was quick-witted, angry, and efficient. However, he knew his own faults and when he was being outplayed. I did my very best to make sure that Althir wasn't always the hero, in a way I made him the villain (unintentionally). That's when I decided to make this half-elf rouge grow up and become an assassin.

At this point in time I got really absorbed into Assassins' Creed and loved the philosophy that the game provided. Looking at Althir and looking at Altair (name similarity was unintentional) I began thinking, "These two are a lot alike" and so through age progression in my stories, Althir became an assassin. He was a killer in the shadows but with a heart made of gold. Never did Althir want money or power, he wanted peace and he knew of a way to make it happen. "Kill off those who wish death, those who have power and do nothing, those who have it all but give none." That's been his motto since Althir was twenty-five. Althir dies at the age of sixty-four, three years after the Two Kings Revolution, which is three years into the Central Kingdom's Era.

Althir was called the Assassin in Red, but before that he was a rouge in white. He then became the Assassin in Gray after the events of King of Darkness, where he began his endless journey to kill Orkus. Again and again, Althir would find himself stopping Orkus's plans, and again and again he lost much in order to do just that. Little did he realize that it's been in his family to stop and kill demons his entire life. A fate that his father has tried to prevent.

The family life Althir had was a poor one. He grew up in a tiny village with only humans, where he was picked on and beaten for being a half-breed. This was inspired by the anime "Inu-Yasha" where similar things would happen. Althir even has a quote that was inspired from that anime. "It doesn't matter to them if you're different. To them you're always wrong, you're always alone, and no matter what it's always, ALWAYS, your fault! Why should I give a damn about the nobles?!" In a way, I wanted Althir to represent why people become thieves through poverty, why people become so hardhearted, and so distant.

Later in life, I made Althir become a wise man thanks to the guidance of his oldest friend, Damakos. Althir became the teacher the world needed him to be, but at the same time he came to a revelation. No longer would the Assassin in Gray be needed, but rather a new De'Alselah master. At this point he also found out about the cost it would take to become a master of the De'Alselah. Since I made it a nearly unbeatable martial style, I had to think of a way for it to come at a cost. That's why I thought of muscle deterioration. With a skill so well made there had to be some kind of cost, something that prevented many from learning it, a handicap. I can hardly think of many warriors who want to live only to be in their fifties when they die due to their own power.

As I've mentioned, Althir had a family. His sister, Natiana De'Alselah, like him was also a half-elf. She went to NeverWinter after the events of KoD, and has stayed there since then. She died at the age of forty, giving birth to her son, Vencairi, known as Vencai. Later Althir met his nephew and decided to raise him as a son as best he could, however he failed when he saw that Vencai was following in his footsteps to become a master of the De'Alselah. Driving his nephew away with harsh lessons, and even harsher punishments for failing to learn these lessons, he obtained Vencai's hatred. By doing so, Vencai took off for Luskan, and never returned, he never knew of his mother Natiana until after Althirion's death.

I've written many stories about Althir, none of them were solid books, but still these stories are some of my favorite because this is my oldest character. Were I just stubborn and refused to age him, then I'd continue to make these stories. Alas, I am not that stubborn, and that would be poor writing. In my newest series Althir's Final Days, it shows his journal entries on Althir's deathbed. It'll be about his many adventures, and the lessons he has to offer. However, it's quite depressing, since it's coming from a man who's dying.

I'm only going to post about five of my favorite quotes from Althirion De'Alselah. Which is difficult, but I feel that many of you will like them too.

Quote 1: "You can never be powerless, but what you can be is stupid."

Quote 2: "Fighting in wars is not how peace is brought upon! Killing evil men who wish war! That is how peace is brought upon!"

Quote 3: "Do not revel in killing, it is a terrible thing. But if you have a choice between your life and the life of your enemy's... you must value your life above all else. Because, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters on the battlefield is who survives."

Quote 4: "With you every life you take your sword will become heavier!"

Quote 5: "Second Chances will never matter, people won't change. They'll just put on a new mask to convince people that they've changed."

All of these quotes are cynical truths. Althirion was bitter cold to the end of his days, when he realized that perhaps, just perhaps, he was wrong. Maybe people are powerless some times and they need a shoulder to lean on. Maybe fighting in a war can bring peace. Maybe it doesn't matter if you survive on a battlefield, for as long as your cause does. Maybe, people can change. Althir died with more questions than answers, but for once in his life since the death of Marala and Ada, he died with a smile. Why? Because he was the hero in the shadows the world needed. "I will work in the dark to serve the light, I am Althirion De'Alselah!"

"Tell me boy, do you know who are?"

"I know who I am, but do you know who you are?"

"I am Althirion De'Alselah, and who might you be?"

"A desperate kid looking to survive."

"If you wish I can aid you in that, but first you must give me your name."

"Tatkora Rosenhill."

"Too gentle."

"What?"

"Are deaf, boy? I said your name is too gentle! From this day forward you'll be a swordsman, a swordsman of the De'Alselah. You'll be named... Valliard, after the word Valiant. Valliard Rosenhill, how does that sound?"

"Valliard... Rosenhill..."
Althirion De'Alselah was a fictional character in the world of Faerun in the Forgotten Realms, thought of by the author Matthew Wilson. In actuality this character is only about three to five years old. However, his adventures begin at the age of nineteen, and end at the age of fifty-nine. He dies four years later due to muscle deterioration that's caused by his fighting style. Althir died at the shoreline of the Sword Coast, his body was burned as requested, and his four swords were scattered. The symbol he had on his cloak, a red phoenix rising from a black fire, was given to his nephew, Vancairi De'Alselah. Who later refused to carry the title of De'Alselah. The De'Alselah style died in the twenty-third year of the Central Kingdom's Era with Valliard Rosenhill being the last successor, and only human successor.
